Weekend favorites…

This weekend was full of fun experiences. Some of them new, some old and some in between.

Friday night…

Found us in the country watching polo. We were invited to meet Eric's boss and coworkers at the event supporting Make A Wish. Now, we have never been to a polo match and had no idea what to expect but we thought, why not?!?! We love new experiences and knew that an evening tailgate with a sporting event is always a good time.

The polo club is owned and operated by a local family and they work hard to promote their events as family friendly. There was a kids area with tents set up that local vendors had games and crafts, pony rides, and a police vehicle that the kids could get in and climb around. Plus, you can take a tour of the barns and get a history lesson about polo. Did you know that polo is a "retired" (my word- I don't remember what it was called) act of war? But the coolest thing they did was a candy drop at halftime.

A plane flies over the field and drops tons of candy with parachutes. It was funny watching the kids chase the plane up and down the field and then scramble to get their prize.

Emerson was the first one to catch a parachute. The rest of the boys caught one on the second drop.

After the match was over the Make A Wish volunteers launched lanterns while the sun set.

Saturday…

A brand new experience in our house. School clothes and supply shopping! I have always loved this time of year because it always meant new duds, kicks and loot. Emerson, is headed to kindergarten an a week so we went out to find new shoes, a first day of school outfit and his supplies.

On our way home, Emerson told me how this was the coolest day because it was a day of shopping just for him.

Saturday night, date night…

Had us singing along to the country music of Dierks Bentley. This is not our typical concert together because I'm a little bit county and Eric is a little bit rock-n-roll. But seeing live music is one of our favorite things to do together. The tickets were a gift from his work and this was another thing that we said why not?!?!

We had a great time taking in all of sights and sounds as well as running into friends and hanging with one of Eric's coworkers and her friend. Plus, seeing Dierks was a great reminder why I like his music. He was really grateful and humbled by selling out the venue.

Sunday funday…

Was an afternoon at the county fair. This has always been a high light of my summer since being little. I loved going and now love taking my kids. The bonus of the fair for us is the food. Our fair has all local organizations making some kind of delicious homemade goodness. There's the Homemakers extension, local churches, 4-H groups and different livestock groups selling their fares. But the main attraction, the animals.

The llama barn is always a favorite with a chance of petting a llama and free games to play you can't go wrong!

While walking through the pig barn we saw a lady sitting with her pigs. She asked if we wanted to pet the pigs. Emerson was the only one who wanted to. So, why not?!?! When I asked him how it felt, he said gross.

Elle's first time at the fair. She loved the corn pile! The look on her face when she was able to get out of her stroller and scoot around was of pure joy.

Chocolate covered bacon with a Carmel drizzle, um sure, why not?!?! We all tried this and it was good but I wished it was warm because then it would have been amazing!

Corn on the cob was a winner for this girl! Now, she didn't eat the entire ear I saved an area for her and boy did she love it. She was wildly upset when I took the cob away from her.

Our weekend was full with some couple hour events that took us out of our normal for just a bit. As a family, we tried a new thing and did something that we do yearly. As a couple, we took time for us and did something we love. Me, as a mom, I did something I was excited to do with our oldest. We all tried a crazy concoction. We all had fun.

So, why not?!?!

The next time you have something to do whether a new outing and an annual outing, find the why not and see where that takes you.
