Things I love…

This week was busy with all things Halloween and we decided to embrace the fun and do all the things. What I love about Halloween are the kids playing dress up and their excitement about trick or treating.

On Friday, I volunteered for Emerson’s first ever field trip to a farm where we learned about life as a farmer, animals on the farm and then picked a pumpkin.

Saturday night, we went to a carnival at the Y for games, a hayride and campfire.

Sunday, was our day to pick pumpkins and carve them. We went to a local farm for a hayride, pumpkins and ended with our traditional superhero ice cream treat. Grandma and grandpa helped us prepare to carve and Elle loved the pumpkin guts! We also went to a trunk or treating event. There was a smash-a-car station the boys wanted to try it out. Emerson loved it and didn’t want to stop. Rhys took two small swings, looked at me and said, “Mommy, I’m done now.”

Monday, found us at Eric’s work for trick or treating and then Emerson’s school for Family Literacy Night with a Halloween theme. I pushed everyone to dress up for dad’s work, Elle slept the entire time, 4 out of 5 was close enough. Rhys wanted to be Mario and picked out costumes for the rest of us. We all agreed, and went for it. Emerson was Luigi, Elle was Princess Peach, I was the hammer throwing turtle and Eric was Toad.

Tuesday, Halloween was finally here. It was Rhys and Elle’s pumpkin play day at school. I got to hangout with both of them decorating pumpkins and playing.

Then the rush. After school let out we set up our front steps and fire pit for passing out candy. We picked out costumes and geared up. We were all supposed to be Mario brothers characters but for some reason Rhys decided he wanted to be Kylo Ren. Emerson dressed as a Ninja Turtle until he saw that his sister was going to be Princess Peach and he wore his Luigi costume.

We sat outside for a bit then the boys said let’s just go to our next door and across the street neighbors. Next thing we knew we were swept up in the excitement and went down our street and up the next. Then they were done.

Emerson took his costume off to pass out candy and then he noticed some other neighbors now passing out candy and wanted to head back out without a costume on. I said I’ll take you but put on a costume. He went in and a few minutes later came out with a Christmas blanket tied around his neck and said, “I’m a wizard, let’s go!”

We hit up two houses and then we were back home. We had two full pumpkins of candy and lots of leftovers. The kids had fun and we did too.
