Get Out and Go…

First day hike.

Happy 2017! We had a pretty great last year and we can’t wait to see what happens this year.

To start our year out right, we headed out on a first day hike to Ft. Harrison State Park. We hike there a lot with friends when we need to get out and go. All the hikes are pretty easy and the kids make it through with minimal whining.

We are now at a point with the kids where we have to coax them into wanting to hike. We are lucky that we only have to recall memories of previous trips and make a deal for some playground time to get them in the car. I get that they don’t always feel like it’s going to be fun. Sometimes, the car rides are too long and we have had long boring walks but I will continue to bargain. It is so important to  get out and connect with nature.

We had a great walk in the woods on the Lawrence Creek Trial. We went up, down and around on the winding trail. At times, it was a mud slick, but mostly a nice easy walk. Our adventure had little mishap that left us with muddy boots, a renewed bond with nature and wanting more.

I am excited about our plans to hike, camp and vacation this year. We have several adventures we want to do that waiting to make them happen might just be agonizing.

Here are a few of our plans…

  • Take a hike every month.
  • Take a road trip vacation.
  • Go to all our state parks.
  • Camp more than last year.

Basically, anything we can do to be outside exploring, wondering and adventuring are our plans. This week this bucket list popped up in my feed. I think it will help us achieve our plans.

2017, we hope you are full of adventures that leave us with little mishap, muddy boots, stronger bonds and wanting more!
