Things I Love…

Friday mornings!

Friday mornings have become our easy mornings, again. We can get up when we want, stay in our jammies if we want, go to the park if we want, watch tv all morning if we want, run errands if we want, checkout cool things around town if we want or hike if we want. The skies the limit on Friday mornings. I forgot how much I loved having one day where there are no scheduled work or school things to do.

So, what have we been doing on Friday mornings since our mornings became free? We have been going to the skate park! It’s pretty awesome. The boys love it. Usually, the park is empty so they can work on their skills and I can relax because I am not worried that they are going to get taken out by a big kid.

I am still nervous that they will get hurt but pretty impressed with the courage and ease they both possess. It did take lots of coaching and convincing to start with the the small ramps and work their way up to the 4′ tall ones but they got it.

Listening to Emerson while he rides is  pretty funny. He narrates his tricks, calling himself “Emerson Super Stunter” and saying things like, “super star Emerson has still got it,” and “only two more rounds to go before I am famous.” I have no idea where he comes up with this stuff.

When Emerson isn’t hamming it up he’s yelling, “Hey Mom, watch this!” and “Did you see that?!?!” or helping his brother out.

They are both pretty confident and determined little dudes but not completely fearless. They can get to the top of the tallest ramps but coming down usually entails sliding down on their rears after dropping the scooter down. I am grateful that they can recognize thier limits as well as figuring out how to not let it hold them back.

Most of our trips end with ditching the scooters to climb, jump and balance on all the ramps and rails. You would think that I would be able to relax even more but this is when they think they can jump from 5′ tall ramps. Thank goodness the park is usually empty because seriously no one wants to keep hearing, “you’re going to get hurt” or “that’s too high” yells from a mom.

I love their adventurous, thrill seeking spirits and even though it’s going to be hard to watch them get better and more daring as they grow, I am determined to let them.
